Haulin the pros & cons
Pros
1. Graphics: The game is visually stunning; showroom reflections are a touch to bright but in game are very good.
2. Models for the truck & trailers are same as in PTTM so no problems there, the best part is the remodelled interiors for said trucks more dials that work and the mileage clocks up so you can keep a track of total distance travelled.(1) (See cons).
3. The world map is huge and well thought out, with great intersection models, although the directional map is confusing at 1st compared to PTTM but you soon get used to it.(2) (See Cons)
4. The guys at SCS must be very proud of their weather model (3) (See cons) the effects are very realistically portrayed, especially on the internal view.
5. The AI both truck & car models are much better than in PTTM & there are more of them. (4) (See Cons)
6. Police & overall driving skills are much improved no more running red lights or ramming errant AI drivers out of the way & speeding is a frowned upon activity because the action by the in game law enforcement is swift & hefty. (5) (See cons)
Cons
1. It must of took hours of programme writing & testing to get this feature to work shame the interior milometer is not linked to the exterior though.
2. The direction signs are to close to the intersections leaving little or no time to change lanes (See con 4)still a few map glitches as well especially trying to cross carriageways to get fuel because gas stations are very far apart on some routes, but nothing major.
3. To much rain, it never seems to stop.
4. To much AI at times especially when the situation as in con 2 happens, you could spend days trying to cross a road to get fuel & you cannot make a dash for it without getting penalised by the over sensitive police.
5. The fines are far to hefty,(sometimes more than the value of your load) & a lot of the time for running red lights that are either not present or changed when half way through & you get penalised when the AI drive into you.
All in all I think PTTM has finally met its match, “Haulin” is a great game, not perfect but getting there rapidly.
Tips for Playing
1. Start on the easy mode just to get used to how the game works.
2. Drive sensibly, no point in rushing as the loads are not timed so relax & enjoy the views. Remember the 2 second rule! & if the brake lights on the vehicle in front come on get ready to stop rapidly.
3. Stick with the standard truck for as long as possible to generate revenue to hire other drivers & purchase second hand trucks (because they invariably need some repairs before going out on the road).
4. Do three or four short journeys at 1st to get the feel of the game & also get used to the very slow handling especially compared to the quick steer as in PTTM trucks.
5. After a few trips visit the Hotels & rest stops to meet & employ the other drivers, you will need a truck for them to drive & you will also need to have delivered for a company before you can arrange a contract so your new driver will be able to work.
