I agree with you Tommy, we are losing all our car companies, some due to lack of investment (Rover) others in take over bids from major manufactures, Ford & GM own most of the car companies not just in this country but world wide. With foreign investors buying the smaller custom built manufacturers such as TVR, which has been owned by Nikolai Smolenski, a Russian business man for some time.
Peugeot 206 production is going back to France, even though the plant & workforce have won industry awards for productivity & efficiency.
It's all down to the high cost of materials & labour in this country, we have had successive governments that have been tax crazy (80% of the price of fuel is tax) you work hard & pay tax then you go out shopping & pay even more tax in the form of VAT, you then take out a loan to pay for the petrol to get the goods home, only to find that you now have to pay TAX on your insurance as well so Monday you speak to the Boss & demand a living wage to cope with all the extra TAX levies, after a while no one can afford to employ you, so the work goes to another country, The inland revenue losses another few million in company taxes plus the income tax from the now unemployed which are now being payed to sit at home, so yet again the Government comes up with a cunning plan to solve the problem of it's missing revenue, yes you guessed it TAX something else. It's a vicious circle, instead of investing in our future the Government is screwing use as a short term fix for a long term problem.
Sorry Tommy, & everyone else but TVR is not the end of the problem there will be more small companies to follow, don't forget the small companies that supply parts their work force & skills are next in line.

Does not matter who you vote for, when a new government takes over they see how much revenue is created by these taxes so leave them in place then sting you with something else.
We need a " Brewster's Millions" NONE OF THE ABOVE party.
For trade to survive we need to get out of the European commission or commit fully, instead of sitting on the fence, at the moment we get all the bureaucratic nonsense with very few of the benefits.
